Laser engraving works best on materials that respond well to focused thermal energy. Acrylic and wood are popular choices because they readily absorb the laser’s energy, causing them to vaporize or burn away, creating clean, defined engravings. The ease of control allows for intricate designs.

Anodized aluminum is another excellent material, as the laser removes the anodized layer to reveal the base metal underneath, producing high-contrast markings. Leather responds well, providing a darkened, burnt effect that’s often visually appealing, though careful power and speed settings are crucial to avoid burning through.

Glass and stone can also be laser engraved, but require lower power and often benefit from using a masking agent to prevent chipping during the process. Metals like stainless steel can be laser marked using specialized techniques; however, true deep engraving often requires more powerful lasers. Avoid highly reflective materials without pretreatment.
